HMRC have recently updated their guidance for employers who wish to claim under the JRS for employees they have/will furlough.

HMRC have stated that the employer must be registered for HMRC online services for PAYE (this may not include the agent login) and therefore you must ensure you have set an online account for HMRC.  Below are the options :

1. Company has an online PAYE account with HMRC

  • No immediate action required

2. Company has an online account but has not registered for PAYE online

  • Login to HMRC online
  • Select services you can add
  • Select PAYE for Employers
  • HMRC will issue an activation code and send it to the company by post
  • Enter the activation code on you HMRC online account to activate the code

3.Company does not have an online account

  • Register for online services https://www.access.service.gov.uk/registration/email
  • Select Organisations
  • Select PAYE for Employers
  • Follow the steps
  • HMRC will issue an activation code and send it to the company by post
  • Enter the activation code on you HMRC online account to activate the code
