Apprenticeships have been a core part of Tree’s business model from the very start and continue to make up a significant portion of the Tree team today. Over the years, we have taken on apprentices across accountancy, audit, payroll and business support.

Head of People, Zoe Hynes, commented “Having worked with the same apprenticeship training provider for several years, we have established a strong partnership where they know our culture, values, and vision as a business, and therefore have a good understanding of who will make a great fit for the team.”

The nature of apprenticeships has evolved over the years, with focus shifting to more advanced learning and assessment, aimed at reflecting real‑world job roles better. Apprenticeships are a great opportunity to gain valuable experience with all parts of the business and work alongside fully qualified accountants who can support with their learning and development. The exposure to live client projects provides them with responsibility and autonomy, developing their confidence and communication whilst providing context to their learnings.

At Tree, hard work gets rewarded, so undertaking an apprenticeship does not limit your opportunity to progress within the business – promotions can still happen at any time. In fact, our Head of Growth, Abigail Brooks, started at Tree as an apprentice 10 years ago, working across the different departments and learning core accounting skills, to now leading and managing the Growth and Advisory team – showcasing the career progression opportunities for ambitious apprentices at Tree.

When asked about her time as an apprentice, Abigail commented, “It was a quick learning curve, answering phones and admin tasks as well as learning how to prepare a set of accounts from paper records like a bag of receipts and bank statements!

My advice to the apprentices would be to ask lots of questions, get involved in learning about each of the teams here at Tree and do lots of revision for the exams.”

Many of our apprentices go on to study for their ACCA once completing their apprenticeship, highlighting that the combination of practical experience and ongoing studying provides a solid foundation and introduction to the world of accountancy.

Head of People, Zoe Hynes, commented “we are incredibly proud of our apprentices here at Tree – watching them develop both professionally and personally is highly rewarding.”

We are always on the lookout for ambitious and talented individuals – so if you are interested in joining the team as an apprentice reach out to zoe.hynes@treeaccountancy.co.uk
